Rassismuskritische Dialogarbeit mit Polizei und Zivilgesellschaft (Programm in den USA)

ZFZertifikat

Gustav-Stresemann-Institut in cooperation with German and American partners from civil society and police

Program in Jackson (Mississippi) and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania)

Encounters between civil society and the police are a tense and debated topic – from both a civil society and a police perspective. With this in mind, our project seeks to facilitate communication and develop trust, finding common ground in the desire for safer communities all around. Creating greater understanding and bridging existing divides remains the goal of our two-part project.

In the first part, we focused on the situation in Germany. Our biographical work, field visits, debates, and discussions created an essential basis for further steps.

The second part of the project takes us to the US, where we will concentrate on the regional circumstances to uncover the interweaving of policing, community, and racism. In an international group setting, we will reflect on the past and the present, learn more about social politics, and share personal experiences.

Join us for this US-based training and further develop your skills in dialogue through practicing conscious listening, exercising tolerance, discovering similarities, and appreciating differences. Our program includes:

  • Country-specific discourses on history, racism, and self-reflection
  • Comparison of concepts of dialogue work in Germany and the US
  • Mutual exchange of concepts for community improvement and social change
  • Field visits to civil society and law enforcement organizations
  • Field trips to memorials & museums that remember the injustice of the past and lay the ground for overcoming inequities
  • Insights into trauma-informed policing
  • History and continuities of mass incarceration in the U.S.
  • Identifying factors to strengthen coherence in both societies

This project is designed for law enforcement and civil society professionals – from Germany and the US.
